* Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and BNO passports
Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and BNO passports holders do not require a short stay (less than 90 days) visa to enter France or the others countries in the Schengen Space except when exercising a paid activity.
Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and BNO passports holders have also been granted visa-free access to nine French overseas territories since january 1, 2002 for stays up to three months . These territories include : Guadeloupe, Guyane, Martinique, La Réunion and the territory of Mayotte, the territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, French Polynesia, the territory of the Wallis and Futuna islands as well as French southern Hemisphere and Antarctic lands. This agreement include all of the French Overseas Departments and Territories except for time being New Caledonia.

* Other passports
Hong Kong and Macau residents holding other passports should consult either the Visa Department of the Consulate or check the website of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more information.
As per the decree 2008-1176 of the 13th of November 2008, the French Consulate in Hong Kong & Macau is no longer competent in processing visa applications for non resident of Hong Kong SAR or Macao SAR. People must apply for their Schengen visas before leaving their country of residence.
Should you meet an unpredictable and urgent need to travel to France whilst visiting Hong Kong or Macao, please send a mail to admin-etrangers.hongkong-fslt@diplomatie.gouv.fr exposing the situation. Please note that in such a case, there will be a delay of a few weeks for the processing of your application.

For employment or to join family
The standard time to issue a visa is 3 working days provided your application file is complete and you have submitted all the required documents.
During peak periods (before summer holidays and around Christmas time) we may not be in a position to issue the visa within the standard timing; you are therefore advised to apply early enough before your departure.
For holders of passport from: Algeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Vietnam the standard issuing time is 10 working days.
Visa for New Caledonia are issued within 15 days. Please note: we cannot issue visa more than 3 month before your departure date.
ATTENTION : those standard times cannot be guaranteed. It is advisable to keep that in mind when planning for your trip.

In order to apply for a visa, a appointment must first be made on line, Monday through Friday, except public holidays, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm.
